I decided I’d like to possibly use this blog to keep track of some self-improvement things; eg keeping a record of exercises, studying, etc.
Today I took my dog Toby for a nice little walk. I usually walk the same basic loop nearby but this time I tried something a little new. I had seen a potential path connecting two cul-de-sacs in the nearby neighborhood, and by going that way I was able to mix up the loop a little bit.
After I got home I decided I had enough time to get on the bike a bit. I’ve been trying to bike more lately; it’s been a few years since I had a massive bike accident, and this year I decided to do more riding. I took the bike over to campus and just rode around exploring. It’s been a lot of fun exploring around campus; I’ve lived here for a long time now, but I’m exploring places I’ve never been before with my bike over the past few weeks and it’s been fun.
This time of year, for several years, has been Tour de France time for me. I somehow began watching it randomly on tv one year and got sucked into it. There’s so much strategy, so much action, it’s just so fun to watch once you understand more of the details of what’s going on.
That yearly obsession inevitably gets me back on my bike. For years I had no bike, so watching it just got me wanting to buy one. Eventually I did buy my bike and then had my crash a month or so later (I did NOT watch the Tour that year)! I took a few years off as I was just turned off by bikes in general, but enough time has passed and willing to get back into it.
My ride tonight just was around campus and was about 7 miles. I did the longest ride of my life this past weekend (25 miles) and this was my first time riding since then. I surely am not a strong rider so this is quite a long distance for me and my heavy mountain bike!
